JUMBO SHOW ENTHRALLS LEGISLATURES, PUBLICMadikeri October 31: Legislators, part of the Human elephant conflict committee, tourists and public thoroughly enjoyed the unique sports organized by the forest department at Dubare elephant camp today. MLC M.C.Nanaiah inaugurated the elephant’s sports by lighting the camp. Joy of the onlookers knew no bound as the team of twenty elephants, including three calf performed march past, funny tricks, prostration and took part in the foot ball. The galloping pachyderms inside the foot ball court and the calf playing mischief in between kept the audience spell bound. Elegantly decorated Vikram, Harsha, Gopi and Cauvery of Mysore dasara fame added colour to the march past, along with their mahouts. MLCs M.C.Nanaiah and basavaraja Horatti enjoyed safari seated on the back of Gopi and Cauvery. Addressing the gathering, Nanaiah said that it is the duty of all to protect animals. He urged the government to provide two acres of land to the Tribes inside the forest top ensure security to the forest and wild life. He opined that the forest department should grow fruit bearing trees inside the forests and avoid teak and other trees. He also mocked at the government by stating that the government which spends hundred crores for Mysore dasara is not spending any money to improve the life of mahouts. Basavaraja Horatti said that this was his first experience of an elephant ride and he feels that he has wasted thirty years in politics without experiencing such pleasures. Legislators Dayanand, Doreswamy, Veeranna mattikatte, Rajashekaran, Kodagu Zilla panchayath president Ravi Kushalappa, State Wildlife principal Conservator of Forests B.K.Singh, Chief conservator of Forest Vidyasagar, CCF Ajay Mishra and others were present.
